Hello Culture buds, Very excited because last Friday the Director of the UAMA, Olivia Miller, and her staff stopped by Heart of the Sun Gallery. I gave a quick tour and history of my art journey and of the gallery. It was an opportunity to connect with a pillar of the art community in Tucson, and get some face time. The staff also got to try their hands at printing cards. It was fun to have that teaching moment and they all did a fantastic job, natural printmakers all of them.
The staff was also invited to participate in the Exquisite Tessellation Print Project a twist on the Surreal Exquisite Corpse game. This community print project was started in Albuquerque NM by Krrl Whitaker, and in El Paso by Manuel Guerra, so I have taken the lead here in Tucson to complete the Desert Print Triangle. The project consist of an aperiodic monotile that never form a regular repeating pattern. Artist are invited to carve a linoleum block, when the blocks are printed the artist receives a copy, the project receives a copy and keeps the blocks so that it can be combined with other blocks in infinite patterns. This creates a hands on, interactive and intimate approach to integrating our regional printmaking talent. The project is open to any Tucson area artist so if interested please email or DM the gallery on Instagram.
Heart of the Sun will be part of the Open Studio Tour dates on November 8th 9th and 10th. We will have new works available, live printing, and pieces on sale look on IG and next weeks post for more details.
